FENDING OFF FRAUD

“Scam Alert!” Have you ever felt you were scammed? What did you do about it? The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office recently established a new initiative, the “Elder Justice Unit,” to protect Senior Citizens from fraud, scams and financial exploitation. These crimes are under-reported because elderly victims are often too embarrassed to report them. Learn how to protect yourself, what to do if you have been scammed and how to prevent future abuse.

Hold on to your seats! The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra’s subsidiary group, the Flood Wall Jazz Sextet, will wake you up in a very good way. The group specializes in the music of Claude Bolling, Vince Guaraldi, Dave Brubeck, and others, bringing together a true hybrid mix of classical and jazz entertainment.

Honorary College Club member Paula Steiner has had a personal connection to the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra since 1997. It was then that the business in which she was a partner, Medical Research Laboratories, took on a benefactor role. Since 2004, as the company was sold to a corporation, Paula remained very active and supportive of the KSO, to this day, serving several terms on the board, including board president.

(1) domestic violence, (2) red flags, (3) safety planning and (4) resources and support. You’ll learn how this program partners with local agencies to coordinate services for victims. Cincinnati and Hamilton County have a rich 170-year history of excellence in providing essential library services to their communities. With 41 public locations and one-million square feet of public space, the system continues to adapt and change to support the ever-growing information needs of its users. This presentation will focus on the ten-year Facility Master Plan designed to bring continuous improvements to the libraries throughout Hamilton County.

LAST MILE FOOD RESCUE: ENDING HUNGER IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

Last Mile is a Cincinnati food rescue organization that started in October, 2020 with the goal of getting fresh food “out of landfills and onto the plates of those needing it most.” Using a combination of computer technology and its growing volunteer base, the group has already successfully networked with 13 area Kroger stores to rescue 660,729 pounds of fresh food! And that is just one example! Volunteers choose where they want to deliver the food at a time that is convenient to them! Come learn how you too can make a critical difference in the lives of your neighbors fighting food insecurity.

LA SALLE BOYS’ ENSEMBLE: IT’S HOLIDAY MUSIC TIME!

Our annual holiday concert, filled with favorites, will introduce us to this talented and well-traveled musical group! Not long ago, the LaSalle Ensemble performed in a series of events in France to commemorate the beginning of the European liberation for World War II. On June 4, the Ensemble even participated in a parade and concert held in the town square of Sainte Mere Eglise. For the past seven years, the school has held an annual assembly to honor veterans which eventually led to this global opportunity!

ROSEMARY’S BABIES: HELPING PREGNANT TEENS AND THEIR FAMILIES

The Rosemary’s Babies Company focuses on eradicating teen pregnancy and ending the cycle of poverty for teen parents and their families. Rosemary Oglesby-Henry, director, will share her own life experience, the impetus for starting this organization as well as her dreams for Holloway House. Our Scholarship Award recipients will be honored at this meeting. Rosemary’s Babies is our main philanthropy project in 2022. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the CWC Players production of “Mamma in Cucina” has been cancelled. 

Instead, the program will be a patriotic program featuring the songs of Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan and John Phillip Sousa.  There will be audience participation (a sing along) which will have you clapping your hands and tapping your feet.  Please join us for an enjoyable afternoon.

OHIO VALLEY VOICES: INNOVATION MEETS EDUCATION

Ohio Valley Voices was established nearly two decades ago with the goal of teaching children with hearing losses to listen and speak clearly. Ms. Sentelik, an audiologist, will share the details that have made her small school based in Loveland so successful. She’ll answer questions like, “At what age do you begin to teaching deaf children? How do they hear? Why is there no lip reading or sign language like at other schools?” This organization is the recipient of a 2021-2022 endowment gift from The College Club of Cincinnati.
