The Greene Machine at Sycamore Schools

Small yet mighty, the Greene Machine features the fifth- and sixth-graders who make up the show choir at E.H. Greene Intermediate School in Sycamore Community Schools. These dynamos will sing and dance their way into your hearts as they help set the stage for spring with an upbeat collection of tunes.

Beginning Again: Ohio Justice and Policy Center

Hear the compelling story of an 11-year-old child who was unjustly incarcerated for 23 years and rebounded to become a contributing member of society during this College Club program featuring the subject of the story herself: Tyra Patterson.  Having earned her GED and studied to become a paralegal, Tyra was exonerated in January, 2017, and reoriented herself into our community.  Upon meeting Tyra, you will be amazed at the resiliency of the human spirit as displayed by this delightful and energetic young woman.

Discovering the Joseph House of Cincinnati

The mission of Joseph House, Inc. is to meet the needs of the homeless veterans suffering from addiction within our community and provide them the support they need to maintain a life-long commitment to recovery and to thrive in the community. One of the goals for this year is to participate in philanthropic endeavors.  The first of these will be a project benefitting the residents of the Joseph House.  All members are invited to participate.  We will be collecting small toiletries, socks, treats, etc.   The members of College Club will gather to package gift bags of socks and toiletries to present to the clients of Joseph House during the anticipated holiday season.  Members are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m.  to complete and assemble the bags for residents of the Joseph House.  These will be given to the speaker, Ms. Alicia Harter from Joseph House, for distribution.

Each fall College Club members anticipate the creative efforts of The CWC Players.  We are always entertained with the humorous characters entangled in various unpredictable situations.  The productions are always hilarious, and we look forward to a delightful presentation by our friends and colleagues!

One Way Farm

The mission of One Way Farm, which was organized in 1976, is to provide a warm, secure and loving environment to children, ages 6 – 18, who have been abused, neglected, and abandoned. Safe and independent housing is provided for these residents as well as medical treatment and educational services.    Twenty boys and twenty girls are housed in two separate shelters.   They are supported as they strive to build an independent and productive life.    Purpose:  To stop the cycle of child abuse and provide a loving environment for children to grow in mind, spirit and body. To develop an educational system to further the potential of all children without regard to race, color or national origin.

125th Anniversary Celebration

The College Club of Cincinnati will celebrate its 125th anniversary this year.  It is appropriate to reflect on the club’s accomplishments in education and philanthropy in the past as we anticipate the expansion of these efforts in the  future.  Gathering information from an historical summary written by Carole Rauf and the talents of Carol Parsons, a skit depicting major events and achievement of The College Club will be presented for the membership at this initial meeting in the new year.      Carol Parsons                         Chairman of the Day

Organized in 1980, FRIENDS OF THE GROOM is a traveling drama company that presents short vignettes with powerful messages that will touch your heart.  The vignettes are conversations between ordinary people who are in difficult situations or are at turning points in their lives.  This meaningful presentation will be entertaining while bringing comfort and inspiration to you.

IMPRESSIONS OF EGYPT

The Perzigians will describe their experiences living in Egypt from December 2010 until June of 2014.  When they departed from Cincinnati, they expected to encounter many adventures, but they did not expect to be present for the historic event of the Arab spring.  Their presentation will highlight their everyday life as well as the revolutionary political events.

Snowmen, Sleigh Bells, and Holiday Memories

What better way to begin the holiday season than a delightful holiday songfest on St. Nicholas Day!  Melissa Bonetti and other performers from the UC College Conservatory of Music (CCM) will sing a variety of those favorite melodies that put us in the gala holiday mood.  Some of the songs will be done in caroling style, some will be jazzy, and others classical.  Melissa is a master’s student at CCM with a beautiful mezzo voice who will delight all of us with her talent.

A LIGHT IN THE DARK: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SUPPORT

This presentation will emphasize the YWCA’s four pillars of service as part of its domestic violence program:

(1) domestic violence, (2) red flags, (3) safety planning and (4) resources and support. You’ll learn how this program partners with local agencies to coordinate services for victims. It’s important to know that the 24-hour YWCA Domestic Violence Hotline provides crisis counseling, risk assessment and support for those in Hamilton, Clermont, Brown and Adams counties. www.ywcacincinnati.org.
