STAYING THE COURSE FOR HEALTH AND VITALITY

There has never been a more important time than now for us to take especially good care of ourselves. This talk will remind us all of the daily self-care choices we can make, including physical activities, fresh foods and nutrients, adequate sleep and rest, and meaningful social relationships. Learn about the value of dancing, gardening, music, literature, and arts and crafts as ways to stay the course for lifelong health and vitality.

OHIO VALLEY VOICES: INNOVATION MEETS EDUCATION

Ohio Valley Voices was established nearly two decades ago with the goal of teaching children with hearing losses to listen and speak clearly. Ms. Sentelik, an audiologist, will share the details that have made her small school based in Loveland so successful. She’ll answer questions like, “At what age do you begin to teaching deaf children? How do they hear? Why is there no lip reading or sign language like at other schools?” This organization is the recipient of a 2021-2022 endowment gift from The College Club of Cincinnati.

THE DRAGONFLY FOUNDATION— A JOURNEY IN COURAGE AND LEARNING

The Dragonfly Foundation began in 2010 when Christine and Jim’s son, Matt, was diagnosed with cancer. Learn about the family’s journey with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center that led to the founding of this organization to help patients and families find strength, courage, and joy through their diagnosis and treatment. Dragonfly also offers an educational program that works with local schools to connect students to the foundation.

Tour of the Universe: You Are Here

Rocket through space and sail among billions of stars and galaxies. Utilizing some amazing simulation software, astronomer and co-host of PBS’ Star Gazers, Dean Regas, will guide you through the mind-boggling scale of the universe. Along the way you’ll stop at the Moon and individual planets. Then you’ll make the jump to light speed and head to interstellar space and see all the galaxies in the universe. Don’t worry, he’ll have you back home in time for dinner.  After the talk Dean will sign and sell his books “Facts From Space” and “100 Things to See in the Night Sky.”

Taking a School Garden to New Heights: How a Rooftop Garden Helped Transform an Urban Elementary School

From the ground level, Rothenberg Preparatory Academy in Over-the-Rhine seems surrounded by a dense forest of brick and concrete surfaces. Yet, a bird’s eye view reveals that ornamental flowers, fruits and vegetables flourish on the roof of this historic elementary school building, serving as a source of beauty and learning for students. The program will discuss the inspiration, design, and creation of the garden and its curricular connections, with participants discovering how the garden both enriches academic programming and enhances the unique urban community of Over-The-Rhine.
