Look back at 200 years of the Taft residence! You’ll get swept up by just how much we have learned about this house, and how the people that lived there made it a home.  Sue, who is a docent there, will share a number of the most interesting stories as well as update us on the recent renovations of one of Cincinnati’s most beloved museums.

Living With Dementia: New Possibilities Through Art

People with dementia may have been robbed of their memory, but not their creative capacity.  Learn about Opening Minds through Art (OMA), a groundbreaking intergenerational program, based at Miami University since 2007.  We’ll hear from its founding director, Dr. Elizabeth “Like” Lokon, MGS, Ph.D. who is also a gerontologist, educator and Senior Research Associate at Miami’s Scripps Gerontology Center.  The program’s mission is “to build bridges across ages and cognitive barriers through art.”

Face To Face With C. F. Payne

C.F. Payne is an artist-illustrator whose artwork has graced the covers of Time Magazine, Reader’s Digest, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times Book Review and more. He has been commissioned by paint countless politicians, authors and entertainers.  He has illustrated ten children’s picture books, including The Remarkable Farkle McBride and Micawber by John Lithgow.  His artwork had been exhibited at numerous museums and college and university galleries.  He painted the mural on the Music Hall parking garage of some of the famous people who have graced the city.  Come and hear from this remarkable professional!

A LIGHT IN THE DARK: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SUPPORT

This presentation will emphasize the YWCA’s four pillars of service as part of its domestic violence program:

(1) domestic violence, (2) red flags, (3) safety planning and (4) resources and support. You’ll learn how this program partners with local agencies to coordinate services for victims. It’s important to know that the 24-hour YWCA Domestic Violence Hotline provides crisis counseling, risk assessment and support for those in Hamilton, Clermont, Brown and Adams counties. www.ywcacincinnati.org.
